Linux
for education.
A free, open-source OS built on Fedora Atomic. It installs in minutes, updates itself, and doesn't break when students use it.
The problem
Most Hungarian schools run Windows on old hardware that can't upgrade to Windows 11. IT staff manage each machine separately. Students break things. Updates never happen.
How it works
You pick a profile during installation. The righr software goes on the right machine. Updates happen in the background
Immutable base
The system files are read only. A student can't delete something important or install malware. On reboot, everything is exactly as it should be.
Automatic updates
The os updates itself like a phone - no IT person needed. System software updates on boot, user apps update on login.
Old hardware friendly
The KDE variant runs well on machines from 2015 onwards. The Cinnamon Lite variant targets older that Windows 11 can't touch.
Profiles
Every machine gets what it needs. Nothing more.
Roadmap
Where we are and where we are heading. Building a rock-solid system takes time.
Base System (Fedora Atomic)
Core OS image finalized with an immutable filesystem structure and basic ostree deployment.
Profiles and .iso installer
Separated packages into Base, Student, Presentation, and Teacher profiles using Flatpaks for isolation. Choose between them in the Calamares installer.
Cinnamon Lite Variant
Optimizing the lightweight spin specifically for older hardware (circa 2012) to bypass Windows 11 limitations.
Centralized Management Tool
A simple, web-based dashboard for school IT staff to manage Active Directory easily.
